Revealed the 77 finalists in the pre-election
the "7 Wonders of Portugal"
 
Panel of experts chose the 11 natural beauties
most important in each of 7 categories
 
Were known on last Sunday the 7th of February, the 77 pre-finalists in the election of the "7 Natural Wonders of Portugal ®. A panel of experts, representatives of several scientific and national geographic representation, chose 11 sites in each of 7 categories in the competition.
 
Are considered "Natural Wonders of Portugal", the natural monuments in the country containing one or more aspects of rarity or representativeness in ecological, aesthetic, scientific and cultural. Pre-finalists are organized the following 7 categories, which represent the diversity landscape of Portugal:
"Caves and Caverns," "Beaches and cliffs"; "Forests and Forests", "great relief", "no Marine Water Areas", "Protected Areas" and "marine zones."
 
The choice was made through the Internet, with a voting system created for this purpose and monitored byPricewaterhouseCoopers by 77 experts invited by the organization. The basic criteria for the Expert Panel were:
Beauty and uniqueness of the site named; diversity of the nominees (according to seven categories); Ecological Importance (itself or its significance for humans), historical and cultural significance; Geographic distribution within the country, state conservation site and have not undergone human intervention for cosmetic reasons.
 
Some of the sites were chosen in more than one category in this second phase. It is recalled that in early January 2010 were 323 applications submitted and the short list now also be submitted to a vote by a panel of 21 notable personalities of our country. A list of 21 finalists will be known on March 7, when it also opened the vote public.
 
This list of 21 finalists Wonders will be present at least one finalist from each of the seven regions of the country: North, Silver Coast, Lisbon and Tagus Valley, Alentejo, Algarve, Azores and Madeira. Thus, the New 7 Wonders ® ensures Portugal geographic representation.
 
The poll, audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, will continue until September 7, 2010. The winners will be cleared by largest number of votes in each category and will not be elected more than two wonders of the region.

"Moeda Caves" - Caves in Batalha, Leiria
"Berlengas Islands" - Islands close to Peniche, Leiria
"Mira de Aire Caves" - Caves in *Porto de Mós, Leiria
"Alvados Caves" - Caves in *Porto de Mós, Leiria
 
About the New 7 Wonders Portugal:
The New 7 Wonders Portugal was established under the Official Declaration of the "New 7 Wonders of the World ®", has organized the event on 07.07.07 Lisbon. Voting results on a global scale have resulted in more than 100 million voters around the globe. In parallel, was organized election of the "7 Wonders of Portugal ®, elected in a vote involving more than 350 thousand Portuguese.
The New 7 Wonders Portugal achieved the largest ever release of the historical and cultural Portuguese, recovering the interest of populations by the monuments that mark our history. In 2009 was continued to this concept, with the election of the "7 Wonders Portuguese origin in the World" ®.
